Teaching
Experience
I have been teaching dramatic writing, playwriting, tv writing and screenwriting in Boston since 2003. I teach at Boston University's Graduate MFA Program in playwrighting and I have taught numerous undergraduate classes in the Greater Boston area.
I have been teaching teenage artists how to bring their story ideas to the stage and screen at Walnut Hill High School for the Arts since 2007.
It is always a fascinating process bringing a story to life. And it is easy to think anyone can tell a story and they can, but often a storyteller needs an outside eye, someone to bounce ideas off and someone to keep them motivated. I will look at stories in terms of some of these essential elements:
What's at stake? Why Now? What is the relationship of the characters to each other? Who has the power and how does that power journey through the script? What is the world of the story? And what is the “want” of each character?
I’m available for consultations in storytelling, structure, playwriting, tv, and screenwriting.
This would include: determining what subjects fascinate you;
Pinpointing your skills;
Building a structure for your script by illustrating vertical and horizontal story elements;
Integrating these ideas into your story;
And combining all these essential elements into the all important working draft of your script.
