I am honored to attend the Eugene O’ Neill Festival at Tao House in Danville CA from August 24 and 25th, 2019. I will have three readings and discussions around the development of The Second Girl/Thirst. And maybe we’ll raise a glass or two. “Here’s how.”
THE SMUGGLER won the Best Playwright Award at the 1st Irish festival of New York, 2019. It opened in January, 2019 at the Cell Theatre.
The Smuggler: Irish immigrant Tim Finnegan had notions of being a writer in America but struggles as a bartender on the island of Amity. That all changes when a stranger arrives with a plan to make people “disappear and reappear,” and Tim learns the price he must pay to become an American.
I am an American. I may not sound like it. But I am. Worked hard, got the greencard, became a citizan. And when I came here first and you probably know this story but it’s worth repeating in verse: I went to Ellis Island and there’s pictures on the wall of immigrants who went through that hall. And this Italian guy said, a saying of old, he’d heard the streets of America were paved with gold. But on the day he got off that ship. He learned three things allowing him to quip. One: the streets of America were not paved with gold. 2: The streets of America were not paved at all and 3: He had to pave them all.
The Smuggler: One Actor. 9000 words in rhyme. You have to see it to believe it.
